With just a week to go until the gates open for Badminton Horse Trials, we caught up with young rider Alice Casburn, on how her training & preparation is going so far for her Badminton debut.

Tell us about the horse you are taking to Badminton
.
I'm taking a horse called TOPSPIN. He's 14 years old & my mum actually bred him & evented his granddam up to advanced! He's a little bit quirky and sharp & he's a very big horse! He's incredibly special to me as we have gone up through the levels together.

.
How's prep going for Badminton?
.
It's all going as well as it can! He's done two bigger prep runs where he came 7th at Thorseby & 11th at Burnham Market. He's feeling very fit & making the time really easily, he's just naturally very quirky. Nothing really compares to Badminton so I am trying to stay calm - I'm a bit stressed but other than that it's going really well.

.
What phase are you most looking forward to?
.
It has to be cross country. I remember walking up to the Vicarage Vee when I was younger and thinking how huge it was but you can't go to Badminton and not be excited about jumping the Vicarge Vee!

.
Do you have a secret superstition before a big event?
.
I can't wear anything new on the day. I had to wear the Burnham T-Shirt last week when competing just to make sure that everything was going to be okay. So the superstition is new things - I like to keep everything the same.
.
What is your favourite item from the W.O.A.T range?
.
Definitely the Burnham T-Shirt. It was what I noticed first when looking for cross country colours. I love baby blue - its one of my favourite colours. It's also really lightweight & really comfortable so I'm looking forward to wearing it at Badminton!
