Sustainable fabrics, responsible sourcing and long-lasting fashion is something that everyone at Whale Of A Time Clothing feels very strongly about. To ensure that sustainability is continuously at the forefront of everything we do, our founder Ellie Wales made the commitment right from the very start to only work with 100% organic cotton throughout the ever-growing range.
Working with 100% Organic Cotton
So why is 100% organic cotton so important to us? Firstly it’s a big step in the right direction. Working with organic cotton restricts the use of many chemicals, not only making it safer for the environment, the farmers but for you too! Organic cotton uses a combination of tradition, innovation and science, to protect the soils, ecosystems and people, promoting good quality of life for all. Although as with most things that are organic, they come at a premium price which contributes to our pricing.
Our mission at Whale Of A Time is to create fun, affordable and sustainable fashion pieces that you can love for a life time and once you’re done loving them, can be fully recycled. We will never strive to be fast fashion, instead we will always be a timeless and contemporary brand, creating effortless high quality casual wear with no limits on who and where it can be worn and that is something that as a business we feel very proud of.
There’s never a wasted item
We hate to see any Whale Of A Time products go to waste, especially as each and every item is made from durable, sustainable fabrics. So for that reason we created a Depop seconds and samples sale for all of our faulty and discontinued samples to be re-homed at really great prices.. recycling fashion at it’s best!
Plastic Free
In summer 2019 we were able to dispatch every order that left our warehouse plastic free with the use of recyclable boxes, tissue paper and plastic free swing tags, which we received a huge amount of positive feedback from and a great insight in to how ethical fashion is so important to our customers. Not only is our packaging recyclable for online orders & of great quality for customers to re-use if returning to us, but we’ve made sure this is consistent by sourcing 100% recyclable bags for all events throughout the year too!
Our suppliers & transparency
We want you to know who’s making your clothes and for that reason we’ve made sure to be as transparent as possible. In Autumn 2019 we were super excited and proud to be able to bring our entire manufacturing back to the UK from India, hugely reducing our carbon footprint which is so important to us. Our fabrics throughout the range are currently woven and dyed in both Manchester & Leicester and all of our collections are manufactured in Birmingham. This allows for a faster turnaround from design to manufacture and most importantly being able to work much quicker and closer with the brilliant factories that we work with.
